¿Quiénes son las caras de la bandera?
La “bandera de las caras” ha acompañado al Bloque Latinoamericano en marchas, declaraciones y reuniones desde 2019, y se ha convertido en una de las referencias más conocidas de nuestra organización. Son cuatro héroes y mártires de la lucha social y política de América Latina, cuatro vidas y cuatro historias de valor, resistencia y solidaridad, cuatro llamas apagadas por la violencia de la reacción.
Temístocles, Berta, Camilo y Marielle son inspiración, son impulso, fuerza y compromiso, como lo son muchas otras figuras de la lucha en América Latina como Domitila Barrios, el Ché Guevara, Lohana Berkins, Arlen Siú, Salvador Allende, Tránsito Amaguaña, los 43 normalistas de Ayotzinapa, Roque Dalton, Chico Mendes, y miles de otras vidas célebres y anónimas que con su ejemplo nos motivan donde quiera que estemos.
Acá presentamos una información mínima sobre la vida y lucha de nuestrxs compañerxs, que más que símbolos, son militantes en presente y futuro que sentimos cada vez que alguien se indigna ante la explotación, y transforma esa indignación en acción.
Temístocles Machado (1958-2018)
Temístocles Machado Rentería fue un líder comunitario afrocolombiano que luchó con todo contra las empresas privadas, agentes particulares e incluso con personas de la Alcaldía de su ciudad, Buenaventura. La defensa de los territorios comunitarios y el desarrollo para los mismos, era su principal objetivo, pero el monstruo del capitalismo cobró una vida más, arrebatando a un líder, padre y esposo.
“No creo que los grupos armados lleguen aquí solos. Sin consentimiento. Son aparatos armados usados por políticos y empresarios. Aquí la autoridad no funciona” era uno de los muchos de sus pensamientos que dejaron una huella indeleble en los habitantes de la comunidad bonaverense. El sábado 27 de enero de 2018, el líder cívico fue asesinado por dos sicarios que le propinaron dos disparos cuando se encontraba en el barrio La Paz, Buenaventura, Colombia.
Berta Cáceres (1971-2016)
Fue una mujer indígena lenca de Honduras, activista de los derechos humanos. Cáceres defendió el territorio y los derechos de los lencas, grupo étnico que ocupa parte del territorio de Honduras y El Salvador. En 1993 co-fundó el Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Indígenas Populares (COPINH), el cual organizó férreas campañas contra los megaproyectos que violaban los derechos ambientales y las propiedades territoriales de las comunidades originarias en Honduras. A lo largo de su carrera como defensora de los derechos humanos, Berta denunció la impunidad de los agentes que reprimen la resistencia de quienes defienden el medio ambiente.
El 3 de marzo de 2016, varias personas no identificadas irrumpieron en la casa de Berta y la asesinaron. El 30 de noviembre de 2018, el Tribunal Penal Nacional de Honduras condenó a siete hombres por el asesinato de la defensora de derechos humanos y determinó que éstos habían sido contratados por ejecutivos de DESA, empresa que estaba construyendo una hidroeléctrica en territorio indígena lenca.
Camilo Catrillanca (1994-2018)
Camilo fue un líder comunitario y luchador (weichafe) por la causa mapuche en contra de la ocupación de sus tierras de manera violenta por el capital y el estado en Chile. Además de trabajar como tractorista, lideró protestas desde su adolescencia por arrancarle a las autoridades locales la restitución de derechos para las comunidades mapuches, sobre todo para la juventud y les estudiantes. El 14 de noviembre de 2018, Camilo fue asesinado de manera cobarde por un tiro en la nuca por parte del Comando Jungla, una división élite de Carabineros de Chile .
Marielle Franco (1979-2018)
Marielle creció en la favela de Maré, en el seno mismo de la clase popular carioca, y se definía a sí misma como “mujer feminista, negra e hija de la favela”. Como universitaria, se integró en la militancia por los derechos humanos y la lucha contra la violencia en las favelas, tanto de las fuerzas del estado como de grupos del crimen organizado. Luego, como militante del Partido Socialismo e Liberdade, fue electa concejala de Rio.
Por resultar una amenaza para el crimen, la corrupción y la injusticia, Marielle fue asesinada por sicarios el 14 de marzo de 2018 por expolicías militares, que han sido vinculados en el proceso judicial correspondiente con Flavio Bolsonaro, hijo del expresidente antiderechos Jair Bolsonaro.
Con la cabeza y la memoria bien en alto decimos: ¡Temístocles, Berta, Camilo y Marielle! ¡Presentes! ¡Ahora y siempre!
